Above their heads the wings of an albatross unfolded, catching the spiraling currents of air as they rose from the ocean swell. Seon looked over the expanse of the ocean, the swell, he thought to himself, is definitely getting bigger. The churning in his stomach had eased over the past two days but that had been when the water was flat. Now, again, his stomach felt as if it was moving in unison with the ocean, not the right kind of unison either, he grimaced as the boat dropped beneath his feet.
“That swell came up fast,” hearing Giac’s voice, Seon turned hands grasping the rail behind him, to see Giac’s head rising out of the belly of their boat. A boat that suddenly felt too small. “Well come on boyo, let’s tie everything down before it gets any bigger.”
“Bigger?” exclaimed Seon.
“You’re looking a little pale there Seon,” said Giac looking over from reafing the sail, “Nothing to worry about, I remember riding a storm where the swell must a been 20 foot if it were an inch. It gets to that size ya tie ya self on and hope your lead don’t snap.” turning back to the sail Giac hid a grin as he noticed Seon struggling to tie his secure lead more firmly to the railing, muttering under his breath, “Swell, swell go away, come again another day….preferably one when we are safely on dry land again.”
